Education Specialist

1. Background:
NETLINKS, in partnership with relevant stakeholders, is committed to improving literacy rates in Afghanistan by creating digital literacy resources and skills development materials. The Education Specialist will support the adaptation and integration of literacy and skills-based content into a newly developed Learning Management System (LMS) targeting youth and adult learners, especially those who are illiterate or semi-literate.
2. Objectives of the Role:
The Education Specialist will ensure that all educational content is accurately adapted for the LMS platform, meeting pedagogical standards and effectively engaging learners. The specialist will collaborate closely with instructional designers, content developers, and technical teams.
3. Scope of Work:
· Review and quality-assure all literacy and skills-based educational content (textbooks, videos, activities).
· Adapt traditional learning materials into formats suitable for digital, interactive learning (e.g., quizzes, drag-and-drop activities).
· Ensure content aligns with literacy progression frameworks (basic to advanced literacy, numeracy, skills development).
· Guide the development of assessment tools such as quizzes, Learning Assessment Portfolios (LAPs) for Levels 1 and 2.
· Support the development of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) and Family and Intergenerational Literacy Learning (FILL) modules.
· Ensure cultural and linguistic appropriateness of educational materials (Dari, Pashto, basic English).
· Collaborate with UX/UI designers to ensure educational content remains accessible for illiterate/semi-literate learners.
· Support the creation of user guide video scripts for training on LMS navigation and usage.
· Participate in user acceptance testing for educational content functionality and learner engagement.
4. Deliverables:
· Reviewed and approved content ready for integration into LMS.
· Structured adaptation of literacy and skills-based textbooks into interactive digital lessons.
· Assessment templates and tools for each literacy level (Levels 1 and 2).
· Recommendations for improving content accessibility for illiterate and semi-literate learners.
· Contributions to training manuals and user guide materials for learners and facilitators.
· Periodic progress reports to NETLINKS management and feedback integration.
5. Required Qualifications and Experience:
· Master's degree in Education, Curriculum Development, Educational Technology, or related fields.
· Minimum 5 years of experience in literacy and basic education programs, preferably in fragile or conflict-affected contexts.
· Experience designing or adapting educational materials for digital platforms (LMS experience preferred).
· Familiarity with adult education, accelerated learning programs, and non-formal education systems.
· Strong knowledge of Afghanistan’s education system and cultural context.
· Fluency in Dari and/or Pashto required; working knowledge of English is an asset.
· Ability to work collaboratively in multi-disciplinary and multicultural teams.
· Experience with instructional design tools and content adaptation for low-literacy audiences is an advantage.
